Update on Hill Battery Recycling

I dropped by the Radio Shack at Eastern Market Metro to pick up used batteries they are collecting for us. They gave me a huge bag of batteries, which I delivered to our battery recycler and neighbor Cathy. It was so great to get this huge bag! Keep dropping off your batteries at Radio Shack, Brita water filters at Hill's Kitchen, and wine corks at Hayden's. See the addresses of these locations in the General DC Recycling Info column over to the right.

  1. Just to clarify, Radioshack only takes RECHARGEABLE batteries, not regular batteries.

Also, UPS takes only styrofoam peanuts, not bubble wrap. I don't know if Mailbox Etc. accepts bubble wrap.

  3. Hi Ralph,

My apologies for not responding sooner as I was on travel. I'm not aware of any service that will pick up batteries and recycle them. Your best bet for recycling batteries is to drop them off at the Fort Totten recycling center. They have hazardous waste recycling every first Saturday of the month from 8am - 3pm. You must be a DC homeowner to be able to get access to the facility. Here's a link!
